Primrose Oil for Thinning Hair

Oil of Primrose for Thinning Hair

IDENTIFICATION
Primrose oil, derived from the seeds of the primrose wildflower, contains high amounts of the essential fatty acid gamma-linolenic acid, or GLA. An omega-6 fatty acid, GLA stimulates hair growth and skin regeneration, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center, or UMMC. Primrose seeds contain approximately 25 percent essential fatty acids, which may reduce inflammation and improve skin, hair, and nail health, UMMC reports.

FACTS
Thinning hair and hair loss can have numerous causes, including genetics, hormone fluctuations, hair care practices, illness and nutritional deficiencies, according to the AAD. Treatment options include anti-inflammatory medications, minoxidil, topical sensitizers and photochemotherapy. Primrose oil, which contains anti-inflammatory properties, may help to promote hair regrowth and serve as an alternative treatment option, according to the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases.

FUNCTION
Primrose oil may aid in hair loss due to its high GLA and antioxidant content. Deficiencies in essential fatty acids can contribute to hair loss, and lipid containing supplements may improve symptoms, according to the November 2010 issue of "Current Opinion in Clinical Nutrition and Metabolic Care." Antioxidants, such as those contained in primrose oil, protect your body from free radical damage and improve your nutritional status, a contributing factor to hair growth.

PROTOCOL
Dosages for primrose oil varies, depending upon its intended use, but clinical trials suggest ingesting 6 g to 8 g a day, according to Drugs.com. To help improve thinning hair and hormonal imbalances, try taking 4 g of evening primrose daily, recommends Linda Page, Ph.D. While taking primrose oil, ensure adequate vitamin C intake, which enhances the effects and absorption of primrose, recommends the Monroe Street Medical Clinic in Port Townsend, Washington.

Oil Mix

Everyday Mix:
(use more of the less expensive oil when making this combination)

NATURALLYCURLY.COM OIL HAIR GROWTH MIX

TIMESOFINDIA.INDIATIMES.COM COST EFFECTIVE OIL MIX FOR GLOSSY, THICK HAIR
Directions:
Take 25 gram of dried cayenne pepper and put it in 500 ml of olive oil. Use a dark bottle to store the mixture as sunlight destroys the brew. Let it stand for 10 to 15 days. Use this mixture on to hair and scalp regularly as you put any normal hair oil. Shampoo and condition afterwards as usual, but make sure to shampoo off the mixture from your hair.

You can also mix 1 to 2 teaspoon of cayenne pepper with 1 to 2 teaspoon of olive oil. This will give you a thick paste that you can rub on the base of your scalp and any balding spot. Massage the paste thoroughly. Cover your head with a shower cap and leave it on for 10 to 15 minutes. Later, rinse it thoroughly. The olive oil neutralizes the heat from the cayenne.

Protein/Moisture Strand Test

Protein/Moisture Strand Test

Do you need moisture or protein or neither?

Take a strand of shed hair; hold it at each end and pull:
  • If your hair breaks immediately, then it is dry/brittle and needs moisture.
  • If your hair stretches and/or remains stretched out, your moisture level is too high and you need protein.
  • If your hair stretches and then returns to its original length, then your hair is balanced.

Benefits of Emu Oil For Hair

Benefits of Emu Oil For Hair

Product Recommendation: 100% Pure Emu Oil (for a great facial, you can also add the cleanser or soap and toner with the emu oil as the 3rd step)

What is Emu oil?

Emu oil is rendered from a thick pad of fat on the back of the emu bird that was apparently provided by nature to protect the animal from the extreme temperatures in its Australian homeland. Source: Hairloss-Research.org

The emu, Dromaius novaehollandiae, is a flightless bird indigenous to Australia. Emu oil has been used historically in Australian aboriginal traditional medicine for fevers, coughs, minor pain, arthritic joints, bruises, cuts and sores. Source: en.wikipedia.org

Emu oil is usually marketed for skin treatments, such as burn relief, wrinkles and renewing the skin.  Emu oil is able to penetrate the epidermis and reach levels of the skin that few topical products can, due to the fact that the molecules in emu oil are very small.  It can be used as a trans-dermal delivery system, carrying other products in with it.Source: blackhairmedia.com

When the emu is processed for its healthy red meat, the fat is then refined into oil. It is an all natural substance.  When processed, the fat is taken through a series of steps to refine, sterilize and deodorize it. Source: emu-oil.com

Benefits of Emu Oil:

Emu oil is anti-inflammatory, good emulsifier (good "blendability"), bacteriostatic (does not grow bacterial organism), no potential for irritationdoes not clog poresgood moisturizeranti-aging factorwound healing abilities, etc. Source: Hairloss-Research.org

The potential benefits of emu oil are numerous, it can be used to treat arthritis, wrinkles, hair and scalp disorders and other skin disorders such as Psoriasis and Eczema, etc.Source: hairsite.com

Emu oil has the amazing ability of cellular regeneration, so not only is it popular for hair, it is also popular for your skin. A large component of it is made from monounsaturated fatty acid and this fatty acid is the main reason why it gets easily absorbed into skin, scalp, and hair. It has been proven through different studies that it actually does stimulate hair growth; some studies even found out that it can increase hair growth by 20%. Topically, emu oil can work wonders; since it contains high levels of linolenic acid, it can not only stimulate growth and hair follicles, it can also prevent hair loss from even happening. According to some studies, emu oil has the ability to stimulate 35 to 40 percent of sleeping hair cells. By waking up these sleeping hair cells, you will effectively improve the thickness of your hairSource: OilForHair.org

Emu oil matches very closely to chemistry of natural healthy human skin. This seems to be the reason it penetrates quickly and deeply into all the layers of the skin. Once there, it is believed to provide effective nutrition to the skin and embedded hair follicles.Source: TechConnective.net

Clinical studies conducted in the United States and other parts of the world show that emu oil works with the anagen phase of hair growth. This is the only phase in which the hair follicle and the hair are actually considered “living,” and thus can be affected by any type of product. It is thought that emu oil benefits cell growth and provide skin stimulation around new hair follicles as they start and continue the development process. All of these together help hair to grow faster; in addition, the hair grown is said to be healthierSource: NaturallyCurly.com

Hair can also experience nearly three times its normal cellular activity with the help of emu oil. The visible effect of this activity is that of awakening: Hair will appear livelier, healthier and more resilient to environmental and hormonal stresses. Since it is anti-fungal and antibacterial, emu oil will break down undesirable buildup and residue at the scalp and roots, thereby increasing volume and manageability. Source: ehow.com

High Porosity Hair

High Porosity Hair

High porosity can be the result of damage from chemical processing, rough treatment or environmental damage. High porosity hair has gaps and holes in the cuticle, which let too much moisture into your hair and leave it prone to frizz and tangling in humid weather. Even simple acts such as bathing, swimming and shampooing can create more damage and breakage due to the sheer amount of moisture highly porous hair can absorb.

Be sure to use anti-humectants in climates with high heat and humidity. This will help seal your damaged cuticles and prevent them from absorbing excess moisture in the air.

Because highly porous hair can also lose moisture easily, it's important to use leave-in conditioners, moisturizers and sealers. Layering these products will help your hair hold on to the moisture you're giving it. You can even follow up with a heavy hair butter to help fill the gaps in your damaged cuticles and further protect your hair from losing too much moisture.

------------------------------------
"Highly porous hair absorbs more water when wet but loses even more as it dries. When it is fully dried, porous hair feels swollen, puffy and rough to the touch due to the lifted, damaged cuticle layers which have instigated an inherent moisture of deficiency."
--Audrey Davis-Sivasothy, The Science of Black Hair

Products Recommendations: Click here for product recommendations for high porosity hair.
High Porosity Hair

Regimen: Always rinse your conditioner out with cold/cool water to shock the cuticles close. If not, then I highly recommend cold Aloe Vera Juice (whole leaf)--shiny closed hair strands. Use the LOC Method to moisturize high porosity hair daily or as needed. L-liquid or leave-ins, O-oil, and C-creams or butters. High porosity hair should use cool to cold water or liquids. When using leave-ins, use the creamy kind and not the liquid kind. Use heavy oils and butters like shea butter to hold the hair cuticles down.

Silicon (Silica)

Silicon is a mineral. Silicon supplements are used as medicine. (IT IS NOT SILICONE)
Do not confuse silicon with silicone. Silicone is the name of a group of materials resembling plastic that contain silicon, oxygen, and other chemicals. Silicone is used to make breast implants, medical tubing, and a variety of other medical devices.

How does it work?
A clear biological function for silicon in humans has not been established. There is some evidence, though, that silicon might have a role in bone and collagen formation.
Source: WebMD

Silicon (Silica) is used for weak bones (osteoporosis), heart disease and stroke (cardiovascular disease), Alzheimer's disease, hair loss, and improving hair and nail quality. It is also used for improving skin healing; and for treating sprains and strains, as well as digestive system disorders.

Also, in the video, she states that she prefers cream base leave-ins--if you have low porosity hair, use liquid base leave-ins. Product: Jarrow Formulas JarroSil, Activated Silicon, 4 mg/10 drops, 60 ml
